Parent "EiE-STEEM"

No, I did not spell the word "esteem" wrong.  The title reads "Parent EiE-STEEM" for a reason.  When I talk about "Parent EiE-STEEM" I am referring to Parent's Encouragement in Education via Stability, Trust, Eagerness, Enthusiasm and Maturity

Basically, it is a play on words or an acronym used as a mneumonic device to force parents to think about the results of good parenting.  We can not stop dedicating our time to our kids when they are in middle school just because they are a little older and more independent.  If anything, we must try our best to spend more time with them considering the fragility of their age range.
Over the next few posts, I will be posting videos that will strategically align with our "Parent EiE-STEEM" plan.   Until then, please watch the video below, and RSVP for our next PTA meeting and Poetry Café by clicking here.

Wake Up Call for Change!

Dear Parents,

Parental involvement is vital to the success of a school. It hurts me deeply to work in a middle school and see so few parents come to PTA meetings. Teachers and administrators can only do so much. We have lives too. We have families and children too.

Parents please get involved, and tell other parents to get involved. It takes a village to raise a child.

I hope that I see more of you at our next PTA meeting on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 5:00 pm. Please note that immediately following our meeting, we will have our annual Poetry Café in the cafetorium. Please don't miss this! I look forward to seeing you all.

I leave you with a video from a concerned parent in DeKalb. Please watch it, listen, and feel the words that are coming out of this woman's mouth. We need more parents, like this lady, rallying for their kids.

Sincerely,

Shenica Bridges-Mathieu
PTA Secretary and FMS Teacher of the Year

Inspiration and Invitation - Updated Meeting Times

On behalf of the Freedom Middle School PTA, I would like to say thank you to all of the parents and teachers who attended our PTA meeting and Black History Program.  The students need opportunities to shine, and they need an audience to encourage them.  Thank you for being the vehicles of encouragement.  I look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting and Poetry Café on Tuesday, March, 18, 2014 at 5:00 pm.   We will have our meeting from 5:00-5:30 in the library, and we will conclude with our event from 5:30 - 7:00 in the cafetorium.   Please subscribe to this blog for updates, and call us if you would like to volunteer.

In addition, I would like to personally thank all of the teachers and staff who nominated me as the 2014 Teacher of the Year for Freedom Middle School.  It is indeed one of the highest honors that I could have ever dreamt of receiving.   I promise you that I will not let you down.

Last, I would like to recognize Mrs. Berry for winning the auxiliary employee of the year for Freedom Middle School.  You are one of the nicest and hardest working people who I know.  Thank God Avondale closed so that you could come to Freedom.

I leave you with an inspirational message from one of the best teachers in the country, Rafe Esquith, the author of "Teach Like Your Hair is on Fire."  Please take the time to listen to his message.  Have a great evening.

S. Bridges-Mathieu
Freedom Middle School PTSA Secretary
