FREEDOM MIDDLE SCHOOL’S PTA MEETING MINUTES

Attendance: All executive board members were present with
the exception of president Kim Ault
Mrs. Bryson, Mrs. Mathieu (Vice President nominee/elect
2014-2015) , S.C McCrary, Mrs. Tara Smith (president – nominee/ elect 2014-2015),

Approval of Minutes
The minutes were read from the previous meeting and
approved.
Board
The Board, and the guests were introduced.
Advisory Committee
There
are a number of parent openings for various committees. The election committee
and Mrs. Guillary were able to find 3
people who will run for each office, and Mrs. Bridges – Mathieu decided to run
for the vacant position of Vice President since there were no candidates and to
make sure that we can run a smooth transition from one executive board to the
next in 2014-2015. The nominee ballot
will read as follows:
Ms. Smith 404-213-0166 is willing to serve as president.
Mrs. Shenica Bridges-Mathieu is willing to serve as vice-president.
Z. Harmon 770-318-4389 is willing to serve as secretary.
Largetta Singletary 727-637-7844 is willing to serve as treasurer.
Budget
The budget for the current school year was distributed by
Mrs. Bryson, PTA Treasurer, and reviewed by the board and PTA members at the
last meeting.
Principal’s Report

Mr. Davidson could not attend the meeting.

Announcements – We will print out a ballot
with the names of the officers and place them in the box

Approval of Minutes
The minutes were read from the previous meeting and
approved.
Board
The Board, the principal, and the guests were introduced.
Advisory Committee
There are a number of parent openings for various
committees. These openings will be listed in the next newsletter. In addition,
we will try to recruit parents during our next parent teacher conferences. We will follow up with our parent
coordinator; Mrs. Guillary to see if we can do some additional recruiting to
fill these openings via the parent volunteers that she has listed.
Budget
The budget for the current school year was distributed by
Mrs. Bryson, PTA Treasurer, and reviewed by the board and PTA members at the
last meeting. In tonight’s meeting, Mrs. Bryson made a motion to approve the
budget which was seconded by Mrs. Ault. All present voted in favor of approving
the budget as presented.

Mr. Davidson just wants to make sure that we
have a new board for next year.

Call to order from Mrs. Ault
Discussion –
·
Budget
is still not finalized – Mrs. Bryson will finish and distribute at the meeting
on Thursday 2-27-14. Basically, we have a balance, but we have not decided what
we will use the funds on. She stated that after National and State dues
were paid, we have a little over $500 remaining.

Recruiting
Parents – we need more parents to join, and we need to start looking for a new
executive board for 2014-2015.
·
Mrs.
Ault wants 3 committees - a nominating committee, Clarkston a Festival, and
Fundraising Committee. The people don't need to be active members to volunteer,
they have to have a membership to be on the committee, but they don't have be a
paid member to volunteer.

We
talked about teacher appreciation week.
Mrs. Ault would like to do some food and fundraisers to raise money for the teacher appreciation week.

We spoke
about selling candy or food after school in order to raise money.

about the vendors paying $25 to have booths at our event. Mr. Davidson would like Mrs. Bridges –
Mathieu to contact Sabreen Mateen and check the bylaws to make sure that is ok.

FMS PTSA Meeting Minutes
Thursday, February 27,

6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Date/Time: Thursday, February 27, 2014 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Location: Freedom Middle School PTA, cafetorium
OBJECTIVE
Discuss upcoming
fundraisers and to raise money for the end of the year activities. Adopt the
proposed budget for the 2013-2014 school year.
Adopt the audit report. Decide on
fundraiser and assign roles. Choose date.
1. 6:00 to 6:10: Welcome /Call to Order/Pledge of
Allegiance – PTA President Kim Ault
2. 6:10 to 6:25 Treasurer’s Report (proposed
budget, audit report, motions to adopt) –Treasurer Takisha Bryson stated that
we had about $540 in the account.
3. 6:25 to 6:35: Correspondence and report
copies/EC or BOD report/Standing Committee Reports – There are no committee reports
at this time.
4. 6:35 to 6:45: New Business- (fundraiser,
2014-2015 election of the PTSA nominating committee) – Kim Ault discussed the
fact that we need to get parents to volunteer so that we can raise money for
the students and Teacher’s Appreciation Week.
She also discussed the fact that we need some other parents to get
involved. Of the parents who attended,
many parents said they would not have known about the meeting if it were not
for the drama club having a program. A
couple of parents questioned how we communicate meetings to the parents.
5. 6:45 to 6:50 -
News from the Principal, NPTA, GPTA and council – Mr. Davidson was happy
to answer that the news is communicated via our blog www.freedommiddlepta.blogspot.com,
and we sent out calling posts. Some
parents say that the calling posts cut off.
Mr. Davidson spoke about putting a link to the PTSA blog on the Freedom
Middle School website and checking the calling post data.
Mrs. Mathieu spoke to the parents who were there pleading for everyone to get involved.
After all questions and
concerns were addressed, refreshments were sold in the back, and the drama club
did their black history performance.
