Upcoming PTA meeting and principal announcements

Our president will hold our next PTSA meeting on Thursday 3/19/15 at 4:30 pm in the library.  The items that need to be discussed:

On Monday, February 23, 2015; there will be a FLP Parent Meeting at the AIC at 1:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m.  Please add to your calendar.

Our 8th grade students will visit Clarkston HS this week on Tuesday (3/10) and Thursday (3/11).  Please make contact with your student's teacher if you are interested in being a chaperone.  

Come out to the Ashford Pavilion Apartments on Wednesday, March 11th at 10:00 a.m. for a Parent workshop on Reading Comprehension.

Support the Freedom Rams Track Teams on Wednesday, March 11th at Panthersville Stadium.  The meet begins at 5:30 p.m. 

Saturday, March 14th the Freedom Rams Track Teams will compete at Panthersville Stadium at 1:00 p.m.  Come out and show your spirit.

If you are interested in learning more about Infinite Campus, there will be parent workshops on Tuesday, March 17th at 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  Stop by Rockbridge ES for the inservice.

Mark your calendar… "Celebrations" our poetry cafe' will take place on Tuesday, March 17th at 5:00 p.m.  We encourage all to participate.

Progress Report time is here again!!  Progress Reports will be distributed on Thursday, March 19th and Parent/Teacher Conference Night will take place at 5:00 p.m.  Call the counseling center to reserve a conference.

Looking for a job as a substitute teacher?  Come to the Substitute Job Fair on Thursday, March 19th.  Call the main office for more information.

We have 3 remaining Flexible Learning Program sessions this Semester.  Please attend on March 14th, March 21st, and March 28th.

Upcoming Events at FMS...



Everyday is a great day to show Freedom PRIDE. Thank you for trusting us with the safety of your child.
Our character trait for the month of November is Citizenship. Please discuss with your child how positive behavior impacts our communities and society at large. Click here to view the character trait for each month.
  • On Saturday, December 6, 2014, our basketball teams travel to Lithonia Middle School. Girls’ game at 10:00am; the boys’ game will follow after. Please show your support.
  • All Parents with students that participate in our Flexible Learning Program are invited to the school on Saturday, December 6th for Parent Observation Day. Come see your child in action.
  • The Scholastic Book Fair will be held December 12 - 16, 2014.
  • We are in need of parent volunteers. Please contact Freedom's Library Media Center if you are available to assist with the Scholastic Book Fair.

Skate Party and calling posts announcements!


The Freedom Middle School PTSA is hosting a Skate Party at "All American Skate Center" on Friday, September 12th. Time is 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Cost is $8 at the the door. All Parent Volunteers are Welcome!!


    All parents and students are encouraged to join the PTSA for the 2014-2015 school year. Dues are $10.00.

    If your student has challenges in Math, then join us for our Flexible Learning Program (FLP) Parent Meeting - September 16, 2014 (5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.)



    All parents are welcome to attend our Title I Annual Parent Meeting - September 16, 2014 (6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.)



    Come out and support the Freedom Rams football team on Saturday, September 13th at 11:30 ; as we take on Bethune Middle School @ Avondale Stadium.



    Ask your student if they brought home an application for after school tutorial. Socratic Seminar will start soon.



    The district-wide Parent Workshop on the new Georgia Milestones scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 1-4 pm, in the AIC Auditorium.

      Welcome back!



       The mission of the PTSA is to:
      • Support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community, and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children;
      • Assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and
      • Encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.

      It is our goal as the Freedom Middle School PTSA to continue this tradition to enrich the lives of our children by providing:

      • Opportunities to partner with the school in their children’s education
      • Information about the activities and actions that impact their children and the schools
      • Resources for navigating the issues of raising children in this rapidly changing time.

      • Support for academic enrichment activities
      • Recognition and appreciation of outstanding dedication to students

      • Programs to enrich learning
      • Resources to help face the new challenges in their lives
      • Grants to support extracurricular activities

      2014-2015 Goals



      1. Gain more teacher & administrative staff members/partner with Principal/teacher board member

      2. Have a larger Taste of Freedom/Silent Auction

      3. Recognize a staff member and student of the month with a Chick Fil A or Gas gift card.

      4. Contribute at least $1000 to Teacher Appreciation Week

      5. Apply for grants with a functioning Grant Writing Committee

      6. Gain a functioning Publicity Committee for all events

      7. Have a back to school dance on August 22nd with at least 20 parent volunteers helping.

      8.  Have a mini - college tour

      9.  Have a college scholarship and grants workshop

      10. Have a STEM night

      11. Participate in the National Reflections Competition

      12. Have a Mr. and Miss Freedom Event

      13. Continue to have more clarity with the PTSA and treasury reports

      14. Have the top middle school in DeKalb

      15. Work with SGA to make homecoming an event that the alumni would want to attend.

      16. Have enough money to contribute $200 to administrators and secretaries day.

      17.  Have at least $2,000 to help with the beautification of the school and additional supplies or purchases necessary to make the school better and more efficient.

      18..  Have a class representative or a parent champion at each PTSA meeting.

      19.  Have a credit repair and home buying workshop.

      20. Have a swap meet or flea market

      21. Have an International Day to Celebrate our school's diversity

      22. Have a fall festival.

      23. Establish detailed project plans for each event and have them archived for future PTSA groups.

      24. Have a school store.

      25. Help people to have more faith and pride in Freedom Middle School by increasing parent, teacher, student and community involvement.

       We need volunteers to meet the goals mentioned above because the four of us can not do it alone.  Below we have listed some committees.  Please tell us which one you can be a part of.  By emailing Mrs. Bridges Mathieu at shenica_bridges_Mathieu@fc.dekalb.k12.ga.us or by signing up at a meeting or open house.

      Announcements and the Role of Parents in Middle School and High School

      Congratulations goes to Vy Tran (1st place winner) and Bidhya Pradham (2nd place winner) in the Middle School category for the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Asthma Center's World Asthma Day Poster Contest. Vy was the Grand Prize winner, so her poster will be produced and distributed to schools in Atlanta, DeKalb, and Fulton Counties.



      Freedom Middle School will present a CRCT workshop on April 16, 2014 from 5:00 to 6:00. Please join us at Freedom Middle School to learn how you can help your child prepare for the CRCT.



      CRCT for grades 6 - 8 will take place April 22 - 30, 2014. Please have students present each day by 8:40 a.m.



      The PTSA nominating committee is seeking potential candidates to run for office and serve during the 2014-15 school year. If interested, please contact the main office at 678-874-8703.



      Our next PTSA meeting is scheduled for April 22, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. Please be present to elect new officers.
